Pipestone is proud to announce a beautiful new brick red color for our Mimbreno line. This high-fire, vitreous china has been issued since 1984 as a reproduction of the Santa Fe Railway’s classic dining car service. Mimbreno was designed in 1936 by Mary Colter, architect and Native American expert, for the Santa Fe’s finest luxury train, the Super Chief. She took the stunning geometric and animal shapes, from the then, recently unearthed 1200 year-old bowls of the Mimbres Tribe and reproduced them for the Santa Fe's on-board dining service. This service was also used in the better station stops and inns along the Santa Fe's route from Kansas to California.

Our move to closer match the original Native American pottery and early railroad colors comes after many requests and much thought. The black version which is being used exclusively in the Inn at El Tovar will continue to be issued. However, the current burgundy version of the pattern will be phased out. We will continue to fill orders in burgundy while supplies last, but no new decal in that color will be produced. Quantities are limited.

The new brick red pattern will be available on or about October 1st. Place your orders now for the new red brick color or soon to be discontinued burgundy color.
